Adam received an accounting degree with honors from Incarnate Word College in 1988. In 1991, he received his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. Prior to opening his own firm, Mr. Cortez practiced with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld; as an Assistant United States Attorney; and as an Assistant District Attorney. Adam Cortez has litigated cases and represented clients in both state and federal court involving a wide range of criminal matters such as: tax preparation and tax fraud; complex drug conspiracies; bribery (including Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations); health care fraud; environmental crimes under state and federal law; DWI; and allegations of violent crimes ranging from simple assaults to murder. Cortez’s experience is not limited to criminal matters. He also has a great deal of experience and has enjoyed success defending and prosecuting lawsuits involving many diverse claims such as: trust/estate disputes; products liability; wrongful death; premises liability; insurance bad faith; Stowers claims; breach of contract; fraud; automobile accidents; and many other tort and contractual matters.
